Animal Medicines and Pets

Did you know?

• 62% of U.S. homes have a pet
• 27% of pet owners celebrate their pet’s birthdays
• 35% include their pets in a family portrait
• 43% think their pet has its own sense of style

Pet ownership is on the rise, and has increased significantly in the last decade. According to the American Veterinary Medical Association, there are more than 72 million pet dogs and close to 82 million pet cats living in U.S. homes. With pets and people living in such close quarters, the health and well being of these animals is critical. When a pet gets sick, proper medical treatment is necessary.

Animal medicines not only help our four-legged family members live longer, healthier lives, but they help people as well. Studies have shown that pet owners have fewer minor health problems and better psychological well-being than those without pets. People with healthy pets also have better physical health due to walking and exercising with their animals, and 70 percent of families report an increase in overall happiness after acquiring a family pet. Pets can even increase self esteem and reduce stress.

What does this tell us? Healthy, happy pets make for healthy, happy people.

Keeping Your Pet Healthy

Scientists have developed medicines for infectious diseases, heartworms, intestinal parasites, and drugs that enhance a pet’s quality of life, such as motion sickness medicines. We’ve also developed vaccines to prevent devastating diseases such as rabies, canine parvovirus and feline leukemia.  In horses, medicines to treat parasites, respiratory infections, and inflammatory diseases have been important to equine veterinarians. One of the most recent innovations in animal health is a treatment for canine cancer. Currently, one out of four dogs will die of cancer, but with this new discovery in animal medicine, we can fight back against the disease.

We are committed to continuing this quality of innovation and advancement of animal medicines for you and your pets.
